A presentation that combines acting with discussion to shed light on the status of same-sex marriage will be presented Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Emory & Henry.

The Emory & Henry Arts Series presents “Performance! Body! Self!: A Performance and Lecture and Rant” by Tim Miller, a solo performance actor. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in Wiley Auditorium.

In light of recent Supreme Court decisions on key parts of the Defense of Marriage Act, many people mistakenly think same sex couples have achieved marriage equality in the United States. Through live excerpts of Tim Miller’s important performance work on this issue audiences will learn how far same-sex marriage has come and what remains to achieve marriage equality with heterosexuals.

Miller is an internationally acclaimed actor who is known for charged performances that take up the challenging social issues. Hailed for his humor and passion, Miller’s solo performances have been presented all over the world. He is the author of the books Shirts & Skin, Body Blow and 1001 Beds.

The performance contains mature subject matter and language.

Miller has taught performance in the theatre department at UCLA, California State Los Angeles and New York University. He is a founder of Performance Space 122 in New York City and Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, Calif.

The event is free of charge to Emory & Henry College students, faculty and staff, but a reservation is required to guarantee a seat. The adult public is admitted for $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Individuals 55 and over, or students from other institutions, are admitted for $8.
