Summer Scholars is a one-week residential camp for academically enthusiastic and talented rising sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth graders.
Summer Scholars Leadership Program is also available for rising 10th, 11th and 12fth grade high school students. This advanced program provides skills and tools to aid students in becoming better prepared for leadership roles in high school and college.
The camp offers accelerated learning activities designed to broaden a student’s interests. Participating students will also receive a glimpse into life on a college campus.
Scholars attend daily classes with experienced instructors in E&H academic buildings, stay in a campus residence halls, and are assigned an adult mentor who will guide them during their stay.
Previous year’s classes have included drama/theatre, foreign language, leadership, mythbusters, science and wellness. At the time of application, students may request specific subject matter of interest to them and influence the course offerings for this year’s camp.
Evening activities include street dances, talent shows and field activities. Students will also attend a theatre performance at the nearby Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Va.
The cost of camp is $500. This all-inclusive price includes room and board and activity fees. A $25 discount will be offered to those who apply before May 15. A deposit of $50 is due at the time of application. The remainder of the tuition will be due on or before June 8, 2014. Ask your school system if they provide scholarships to the camp.
