The accounting assistant for accounts payable for Emory & Henry College was recently honored by her fellow employees as the recipient of the Blue & Gold Staff Award.
The recipient, Sherry Lowery, has served the College for 25 years as a member of the Business and Finance Office staff.
The Blue & Gold Staff Award was created to recognize outstanding Emory & Henry employees who go above and beyond the call of duty -- not only in their respective positions, but in the College community as well.
“Sherry has the ability to always brighten my day,” said President Rosalind Reichard. “She’s a can-do sort of person who always helps me stay on task.”
Lowery is responsible for all accounts payable at the college, and she is a self-described numbers person.
“I love this place,” said Lowery. “I love the positive nature of this place, and I love the people I work with and the students who call this place home.”
When asked about the importance of the Blue & Gold Staff Award, President Reichard said, “It’s so important to me that we support all of our employees. The quality of the learning environment here at the College is very dependent on the work of the staff. They influence our students in a multitude of ways, and it’s so important that we provide support to them.”
At the ceremony, Lowery thanked her husband of nearly 15 years, Gene. Lowery has one daughter, Casey Roberts Brewster who graduated from Emory & Henry in 2008. She also has two stepsons, Ryan and Aaron.
When not keeping track of the college’s money, Lowery enjoys hiking the nearby Salt Trail and Virginia Creeper Trail.
If you know an Emory & Henry staff member who has performed exceptionally in his or her role and would like to nominate that employee for the Blue & Gold Staff Award, contact the Human Resources Office by the last business day of each month.
