Sports mini-clinics as well as games, crafts and cotton candy will be among the many features of the 24th Annual Washington County Family Fun Day, which will be held March 23 at Emory & Henry College.

Other activities and features include inflatable play areas, games, crafts and healthy snacks as well as homemade ice cream (made in an unusual way by Emory chemistry students) and a cake walk. Special entertainment includes stories and music provided by the Washington County Public Library, zumba provided by the Coomes Recreation Center and magic provided by Bradley Dolinger.

Participants will also be eligible for $150 in grocery gift cards.

Family Fun Day began as a way for local agencies and organizations to showcase the wide array of services available to the public, from reading programs at the public library to organic gardening to child safety programs to information about health and mental health issues.

The event has grown over the years from a small group of participating agencies to the inclusion of 46 vendors last year, with an attendance of nearly 600 people. The event is held in the King Athletic Center on the Emory & Henry campus.

Emory students volunteer each year to help make the event successful and to gain experience in working with the public and in promotion and planning.

Family Fun Day is sponsored by Kidz Place Parent Resource Center, the Washington County Public Library, the Washington County Recreation Department, the Virginia Department of Health, the United Way Virginia Highlands, Highlands Community Services, the Emory & Henry College Appalachian Center for Community Service, People, Inc., and BVU.
