The Director of Public Relations directs public relations strategies and activities for the College, develops contacts and relationships with media representatives to create opportunities for keeping the College and its services in front of the public, advises the president and others on ways to expand and improve the College external profile, acts as spokesperson where appropriate, researches and writes copy for College promotional materials, supervises the production of publications and oversees maintenance of the web page, and Coordinates long-range branding efforts in conjunction with College planning to enhance and promote the institution's image.
Dirk Moore earned his B.A. in journalism, government, and international affairs from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota before receiving his M.A. with distinction in mass communications from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He was employed for a decade as a writer and editor at several small newspapers in South Dakota and Florida before arriving at Emory & Henry in 1993, where he began work as Director of Publications. The following year, Moore was named Director of Public Relations. His work has been recognized with numerous awards for merit, quality and excellence by the Tri-Cities Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. At Emory & Henry, he has received The Hope Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to the College and to the community and the Maiden Award for achievement and distinctive contributions to the College. Active in the community, Moore is the founder and past president of Project Glade, a nonprofit development organization in Glade Spring, Virginia, and co-founder and assistant director of the Glade Spring Farmers Market.
